Afterword
Hello, this is Ukai. Thank you very
much for sticking with me through Volume 6 of Death Game.
I apologize for getting personal, but
I am writing this text right down to the wire, so I’m at a bit of a loss for
what to say... I recall that while creating this story, I was reading things
like The Old Man and the Sea and Mojika (The Curse of Letters). Whether that
influence actually shows up in the main text or not is another matter... The
phenomenon where getting too invested in something actually makes you
understand it less is common in any world, and I felt that Yuki’s case was
approaching that phase, so in order to express that, I made the theme "A
Battle with Oneself."
"A Battle with Oneself" is
a theme that can easily turn into an abstract narrative if one isn't careful,
but since this is indeed a novel about games, I fashioned it into the form of a
duel with rules. Just like sealing a yokai within a barrier using talismans or
spells, binding the phantom with rules and then eradicating it... You
absolutely must not attempt such a thing in the real world, but it is a
solution very typical of a player—of an expert in murder games. I would be most
happy if you enjoyed this Volume 6 of Death Game.
To my editor Mr. O and
Nekometaru-sensei, who continue to stick with this story as it begins to spill
out of the "murder game" category: as always, I offer my heartfelt
thanks. I am an author who relies entirely on the support of everyone around
me. Thank you so very much. Truly...
Well then... Will I see you again in
Death Game Volume 7...?
