Yuuki speaks with Shirou over the phone.

Shirou. A player characterized by her distinct, wolf-like hair. She is blessed with a tall stature and a sturdy build. She has a habit of using grandiose gestures and making dramatic statements. Rather than being conventionally "cool," she possesses a certain stylish flair. She is the leader of a team called "Mikkai." She strongly desires the "Privilege" granted for completing ninety-nine clears.
She called Yuuki. It happened immediately after the conclusion of the seventy-third game—"Mosey Grove." In an attempt to pull Yuuki into Mikkai and hitch a ride on that ninety-ninth clear, she shared various pieces of information she held—everything from details regarding the "Achiever’s Privilege" to other assorted secrets.
"The ninety-ninth game is said to be different from the usual games," Shirou said.
"The fact that it is a spectacle remains unchanged—but that isn't the only purpose. Is the player challenging the ninety-ninth game worthy of enjoying the 'Privilege'? Are they worthy of becoming a King of the Management? It is a special event held to determine that."
Yuuki listened intently. Shirou continued.
"First of all, the selection process for players is different. Normally, participants are gathered by the Management reaching out to players... but in the case of the ninety-ninth, it seems to be a complete 'Nomination System.' The player challenging it has the right to choose the participants. Hypothetically, if you were to reach the ninety-ninth game, Yuuki-san, it means you could freely choose the participants yourself."
"...How do you know something like that?" Yuuki asked.
At the time of this phone call, Yuuki had recorded seventy-three clears. She was a veteran among veterans in the industry. Yet, she had never even caught a whisper of such a story.
"There are 'insiders' within the Management. I hear leaks from them."
"Are you saying you're spying on the Management?" Yuuki was surprised.
"Yes. Is there a problem with that?"
"Of course there's a problem. If you're caught, you're dead."
The Management was an organization that moved in the shadows. They hated being investigated above all else. If the matter were discovered, neither the insider nor Shirou herself would ever be safe again.
"You're surprisingly serious, aren't you, Yuuki-san?" Shirou replied, her voice tinged with laughter.
"It's a bit late for 'you're dead,' don't you think? We are players in a killing game to begin with. Increasing the danger slightly is of no consequence. More importantly, it is vital to keep one's hand of cards as thick as possible. Wouldn't you agree?"
"..."
Yuuki did not answer. She simply thought silently: this one is dangerous.
"Now, let's get back to the topic," Shirou said. "Anyway, according to information from the insiders, special regulations seem to be set for the ninety-ninth game. As I mentioned, the participants are chosen through nomination. The rule is a direct confrontation between the Management and the players. It seems all players are treated as allies. Then, everyone who clears the game will share the 'Privilege.' If ten people clear it, then ten people share it; if a hundred clear it, then a hundred... Sharing the position of the Management's Overseer would likely take the form of something like a Board of Directors. It is precisely because of this fact that I approached you, Yuuki-san."
"Is that really a 'fact'?" Yuuki pressed her. "Is there no chance that this so-called insider is just talking nonsense?"
"Of course, I cannot rule out that possibility... However, I personally believe it to be fact. It's not as if I am trusting the testimony of a single person; I have cross-referenced stories from multiple insiders, and I even have a modest amount of 'physical evidence.'"
"A direct confrontation with the Management—you say, but what are the specific contents of the game?"
"Unfortunately, I don't know that much."
On the other end of the phone, there was the faint sense of Shirou shaking her head.
"Only that such regulations exist... It seems there are records of the ninety-ninth game being held in the past, but I have yet to meet anyone who knows the details. There must have been 'spectators' who watched that game and staff members involved, so it would be faster if I could make contact with them."
"Is it possible that the game is impossible to clear?"
"I believe not. The Management prides itself on fair play. You can trust them on that much."
Well, that’s probably true, Yuuki thought. The "Management" oversaw a cruel and treacherous killing game, but they never cheated when it came to the "Game" itself. This was something every player knew. That was precisely why the Management continued to prosper.
"Now, that is everything within my knowledge," Shirou said.
"I have spoken. Now, I would like an answer from you, Yuuki-san. When the 'proper time' comes—at the ninety-ninth game—will you invite me?"
Yuuki answered this question with reservations.
Afterward, a series of events involving Awahime occurred. It seemed Shirou had a falling out with Awahime, a member of the team she had formed, Mikkai. To resolve the issue, she had gone so far as to send an assassin after her, attempting to rid herself of the nuisance by taking her life. It was meant to be done in secret, but Yuuki happened to be present by chance. As a perfectly natural reaction of the heart, her distrust of Shirou intensified.
—This one is dangerous.
Yuuki felt it instinctively and declared her opposition to Shirou.
And so—time passes.
