Afterword
It has been five months. This is Ukai.
Thank you for making it this far.
How was Volume 8 of "Death Game"? After wrapping up a section in Volume 6 and finishing a side story in Volume 7, Volume 8 had the atmosphere of entering a new chapter. I revealed various settings I had been secretly thinking of, put the spotlight on Shiro who hadn't appeared since Volume 5, and introduced several new characters—I tried scattering various elements just as they came to mind. Since I have written only standalone stories so far, I honestly feel anxious about whether I can properly land this where it needs to land.
As for Yuki's story, continuing from Volume 7, it is a story about her having become a "strong person." Because she is strong, humans appear who try to cozy up to her; because she is strong, she does not easily yield to invitations; and because she is strong, she designates the opponent as an "enemy" and opposes them. This can also be said about Shiro, but superior humans, strong humans, are always bickering with someone and causing problems all over the place. It seems rather tough, doesn't it. Making neither enemies nor allies—that was supposed to be Yuki's original style, but this time, it takes the form of her having "bent" this rule. Was that choice for the best? What price will she pay for it? Regarding that, it will likely become clear in future volumes. At any rate, if you were able to enjoy "Death Game" Volume 8, I would be happy.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Editor O and Nekometaru-sensei, who gave me great assistance this time as well.
Well then... Will you wait for Volume 9 of "Death Game" as well?
